Extended family photography in Ammon, Idaho is always such a joy to capture. When families gather, it is the perfect time to preserve memories. The Boyle family knew this well. With everyone in town for a wedding, they decided to schedule a special photo session.
Ammon, Idaho Photography
They wanted a location close to home. After discussing options, we chose the Ammon foothills at sunrise. This spot is a new favorite for me! The rolling hills create the perfect backdrop at sunrise. As the sun peeked over the horizon, we were treated to the most beautiful glowy light. The sky lit up with soft color, making the morning magical. Sunset is also really beautiful at this location, with a lovely overlook of the city as the background. It was a special spot for this family because they already had fun memories spending time together in the hills. One couple had even gotten engaged not far from where we were.
Additionally, the Boyle family selected the perfect outfits. Their palette of tans, browns, and creams complemented the scenery beautifully. Neutrals always allow the natural light and connection to shine through. Together, the setting and wardrobe created a timeless look that I know they will love for years.
Extended Family Sessions
During extended family sessions, I like to capture a variety of groupings. First, I photographed the entire group with several variations. Then I moved into smaller groupings. Grandparents with their grandkids always create tender moments. Each individual family had their chance in front of the camera as well, including couples and kids.
To finish, I usually offer quick headshots. Families often appreciate these, and this session was no exception. Everyone enjoyed having updated portraits. It’s a simple addition, but it makes the session even more valuable.
In conclusion, that morning with the Boyle family reminded me why I love extended family photography in Ammon, Idaho. There is something so special about preserving generations together in one frame. Sunrise light, beautiful scenery, and genuine connection made this session unforgettable.

I also posted a “Day in the Life” reel on Instagram featuring this session! See it here.
