Island Park Extended Family Photos are always a highlight of my summer photography sessions. The Creswell Family was no exception. They traveled from several states for a much-anticipated family reunion in beautiful Island Park, Idaho. With multiple generations in one place—including children, grandchildren, a great grandchild, and another on the way—it was a perfect time to capture some meaningful moments.
The Creswells are a large family that loves spending time together. During their stay, they visited Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, floated the river, and played games. This family had some exciting things happening for them, including one couple who was recently engaged, and one who was expecting a baby. Big life events are so special for me to get to document!
Extended family sessions like this one are especially fun for me as a photographer. I get to capture many unique relationships in a short amount of time. I always make sure to photograph the whole group together, grandparents with their adult children, grandparents with grandkids, each individual family, couples, and the kids.
Efficiency is key during a session with a large group. I take lots of photos quickly, making sure no one feels rushed while still staying on schedule. Working with different ages and personalities keeps me on my toes, but I love it. I always bring a few tricks to help the younger kids smile and feel comfortable.
